It’s not clear what caused the internet outage, according to the Centre for Information and Technology (CIT). ‘The problem is with the authentication section of Eduroam’, a staff member said at the time. ‘Simply put, people can’t log in.’

It was also unclear how long the outage would last. ‘Probably longer than usual’, was all techinicians could tell CIT employees at nine this morning. Under normal circumstances, the staff member said, they fix problems like this in thirty minutes to an hour. In the end, the problem was fixed around ten o’clock this morning, approximately two hours after the first reports came in.
