The Public Prosecutor’s Office (OM) will appeal the ruling from the district court in Almelo not to prosecute Danny von H., the former boss of RUG fraud suspect Hans G.

On Monday, the court decided there was insufficient criminal evidence of corruption of the RUG’s services department’s former assistant manager. ‘It is highly unlikely that we’ll be able to rule on this matter’, said the judge.

The OM disagrees. In fact, prosecutor Caro Bollen wants to investigate the 49-year-old Von H. further. According to the justice department, he had the university pay for renovations to his home. He allegedly charged the 7,000 euros in renovation costs to his former employer through prime suspect Hans G.

But according to the court, many witness statements indicate that the former manager knew nothing of the fraud.

Fraud

On Monday, the eight suspects in the large-scale fraud case appeared before the court in Almelo. In addition to Hans G., his wife, son, daughter-in-law, and his former secretary Margreet B. also appeared before the court. The case will be heard in court somewhere over the course of next year.
